AC/DC Set to Rock Scotland with First Concert in a Decade

Rock icons AC/DC have revealed plans to perform their first concert in Scotland in ten years this summer. The band will embark on a tour featuring 12 shows across 10 different countries, culminating at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on August 21.

Established in Australia in 1973, AC/DC boasts a dedicated following in Scotland, thanks in part to the Scottish heritage of members Bon Scott, Angus Young, and Malcolm Young. The last performance in Scotland took place in 2015 at Hampden Stadium, although the band remains a highlight at the annual BonFest in Kirriemuir.

Power Up Tour

The Edinburgh concert will be the band’s sole performance in the UK, with additional dates scheduled across Europe beginning in June. The Power Up tour, named after their latest studio album, will commence in the Czech Republic on June 26. This album marks the band’s first release since the passing of Malcolm Young in 2017. Lead vocalist Brian Johnson previously shared with the BBC that the band maintains a strong connection to Scotland. He expressed that when they reunited to create the album, they aimed to honor Malcolm and make him proud. “He was the band,” Johnson remarked. “While he and Angus initiated it, the concept was Malcolm’s. He served as our spiritual leader.”

Malcolm and Angus Young were born and raised in Glasgow before relocating to Australia in 1963. A decade later, the original version of AC/DC was established. The lineup experienced numerous changes but eventually solidified around the Young brothers, vocalist Bon Scott—who was born in Angus and also moved to Australia—drummer Phil Rudd, and bassist Mark Evans. Following Bon Scott’s tragic death from alcohol poisoning in 1980, Brian Johnson took over as lead singer.

This concert will contribute to an already packed schedule at Murrayfield this summer, with Oasis set to perform for three nights in August. AC/DC has sold over 200 million albums globally and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. Tickets for the band’s European performances will go on sale at 10:00 on February 7.
