European leaders must avoid yielding to Russia regarding Ukraine, stated Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Wednesday, prior to a virtual meeting of EU leaders to address the ongoing conflict in light of U.S. President Donald Trump’s outreach to Moscow. “We cannot accept Ukraine’s submission to Russia’s brazen demands, including those related to territory,” Tusk remarked in a video shared on X.
The EU Council of national leaders will receive a briefing from French President Emmanuel Macron about his recent visit to Washington, where he engaged with Trump.
During their meeting on Monday, Macron and Trump highlighted significant differences in their strategies concerning Ukraine, revealing a rift between the United States and Europe regarding Trump’s push for a swift ceasefire agreement with Russia.

“We all desire a rapid resolution to the war, and Europe aims to maintain a clear and unified stance,” Tusk emphasized.
He also noted that while Poland would refrain from deploying troops for any future peacekeeping efforts in Ukraine, it stands ready to offer logistical support “even on a larger scale, should the need arise.”
