U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated during a Fox News interview on Sunday that the tariffs on Canada and Mexico will be implemented as scheduled on Tuesday, with President Donald Trump responsible for determining their specific rates.
Trump has indicated plans to impose a 25% tariff on both nations starting March 4.
Lutnick noted that both countries have made “reasonable efforts” to secure their borders with the U.S., and Trump is currently evaluating the final tariff rates.
“He is contemplating how he wishes to approach the situation with Mexico and Canada, and it remains a dynamic scenario. Tariffs will indeed be applied on Tuesday to both countries. The precise rates will be left to the president and his team to negotiate,” he remarked.

Additionally, Trump is anticipated to increase tariffs on China from 10% to 20% on Tuesday, contingent upon the country’s cessation of fentanyl trafficking into the U.S., according to Lutnick.
