A fourth U.S. Army soldier, who went missing in Lithuania alongside three others when their vehicle submerged in a peat bog last week, has been confirmed dead, according to officials from the U.S. and Lithuania on Tuesday.
The bodies of the three other soldiers were discovered on Monday after rescuers located the armored vehicle in a military training area close to the Belarus border.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda expressed his sorrow on the social media platform X, stating, “It is with deep sadness that I announce the recovery of the body of the fourth U.S. soldier who was training in Lithuania,” and extended his condolences.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also verified the fourth soldier’s death, informing reporters during a White House briefing that U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration were keeping the victims and their families in their thoughts and prayers.
Nauseda expressed gratitude to those who assisted in the search for the last missing soldier under such difficult circumstances.
Rescue teams had been working for several days to retrieve the M88 Hercules armored recovery vehicle that the soldiers were operating during an exercise at the Pabrade training ground, where U.S. units have been stationed since 2019.
