On Thursday, the Kremlin rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s assertion that China is becoming involved in the Ukraine conflict, emphasizing that Beijing maintains a “balanced position.”
In response to Zelenskiy’s claim that Ukrainian intelligence had identified at least 155 Chinese nationals fighting alongside Russia, China cautioned Ukraine against making “irresponsible” statements.
Zelenskiy alleged that Russia was enlisting Chinese citizens through social media and that Chinese officials were aware of this activity.
Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, stated that China is “a firm supporter and active promoter of a peaceful resolution to the crisis” and consistently advises its citizens against participating in foreign conflicts.
When questioned about Zelenskiy’s comments, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov asserted that Moscow is not involving Beijing in the conflict.

“This is not accurate. China maintains a balanced position. China is our strategic partner, friend, and comrade,” Peskov stated. “Zelenskiy is mistaken.”
Just days before President Vladimir Putin ordered a significant military deployment into Ukraine in February 2022, Russia and China announced a “no-limits” strategic partnership.
