Britain has called on Russia to agree to a comprehensive ceasefire in Ukraine, rather than merely a temporary halt, according to a statement from its foreign ministry on Saturday.
Earlier that day, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a unilateral 30-hour ceasefire for Easter in Ukraine, following warnings from Washington that it might withdraw from peace negotiations within days unless both Moscow and Kyiv demonstrate a willingness to end the conflict.
“Ukraine has pledged to a complete ceasefire. We urge Russia to reciprocate,” stated a spokesperson for the British foreign ministry, emphasizing that a pause would facilitate discussions aimed at achieving a fair and lasting peace.
