Prince Harry has lost his legal challenge against the British government’s decision to change his security arrangements after he stepped down from royal duties with his wife, Meghan Markle.
Harry sought to overturn a February 2020 decision by the Home Office, which stated that he would no longer automatically receive personal police security while in Britain.
The High Court initially ruled the decision lawful last year, and this ruling has now been upheld by the Court of Appeal. The judges acknowledged Harry’s feelings of grievance but concluded that there was no legal basis to challenge the decision.
Harry, who now resides in California with his family, attended hearings in April, where his lawyer argued that he had been unfairly singled out for different and inferior treatment. His legal team cited recent threats against him, including a call for his murder by al Qaeda and a “dangerous car pursuit” involving paparazzi in New York City.
However, the government’s legal team argued that the security arrangements in place for Harry had positive advantages from a security perspective.
