The Kremlin stated on Tuesday that Russia will announce its representation at the proposed peace talks in Turkey aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine when President Vladimir Putin deems it appropriate. The Kremlin declined to confirm whether Putin himself would attend.
Putin proposed direct talks with Ukraine on Sunday. Following a public suggestion from U.S. President Donald Trump urging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to accept, Zelenskiy agreed to participate but stipulated that Putin should also attend in person.
“The Russian side continues to prepare for the negotiations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when questioned about the talks and Zelenskiy’s condition that Putin be present. “We are not going to comment any more yet.”
When directly asked who would represent Russia at the talks, Peskov responded: “As soon as the president sees fit, we will announce it.”
