Cyclist Rohan Dennis Avoids Jail Time in Melissa Hoskins Case

Australian cyclist and former world champion Rohan Dennis has received a suspended jail sentence in connection with the death of his wife, former world champion Melissa Hoskins, who was struck by a car driven by Dennis in December 2023, according to Australian media reports.

Hoskins, an Olympic track cyclist, died in hospital after the incident, which occurred in an inner northern suburb of Adelaide.

The court heard that Hoskins had been holding onto the car as Dennis attempted to drive away following an argument, resulting in her fall.

Dennis pleaded guilty to an aggravated count of creating the likelihood of harm. The judge stated that while the 34-year-old Dennis had disregarded his wife’s safety, he was not criminally responsible for her death.

Dennis was sentenced to one year, four months, and 28 days in jail, suspended for two years. His driver’s license was also suspended for five years.
