Ukraine Claims Russia Plans ICBM Launch to Intimidate Ukraine and the West

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (GUR) announced on Sunday that Russia is planning a “training and combat” launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) as a means of intimidating Ukraine, as well as the European Union and NATO member states.

According to the GUR statement released on Telegram, the launch was scheduled to occur overnight from Russia’s Sverdlovsk region. The agency stated that the missile’s flight range would exceed 10,000 kilometers (6,200 miles). The RS-24 intercontinental ballistic missile from the Yars complex will be used.

As of now, there has been no immediate response from Russia regarding the Ukrainian military intelligence agency’s statement.

Russia typically refrains from commenting on its plans to test-launch nuclear missiles, citing military secrecy. However, it generally issues statements following such launches.

Amid the ongoing conflict with Russia, which has now lasted for over three years, Ukraine faces significant pressure as Russia aims to make advances on the front lines in eastern Ukraine. Diplomatic efforts to resolve the war have not yet produced any tangible outcomes.
