Liverpool Parade Disrupted: Car Hits Fans

A car drove into a crowd of Liverpool fans celebrating their Premier League title victory on Monday, injuring a number of pedestrians. Police arrested a 53-year-old British man shortly after the incident.

Merseyside Police confirmed that “a number of pedestrians” were struck after the team’s open-top bus parade through the city center.

Unverified social media video showed people lying in the road. A Reuters photographer at the scene reported seeing emergency services carrying victims on stretchers to ambulances and debris scattered on the road. A tent was erected at the scene.

“We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight’s incident,” police said, adding that “extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.”

An unverified video circulating on social media appeared to show a car driving at speed into fans lining the street, seemingly swerving to avoid the most crowded areas.

Police quickly surrounded the vehicle, and other videos showed angry fans attempting to confront the driver.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the scenes as “appalling” on X, adding that he was being updated on the situation.

“My thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident,” Starmer said.

Liverpool FC said on X that they were in direct contact with police regarding the incident. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident,” the team stated.
