South Korea Probes Ex-Officials Over Alleged Insurrection

South Korean police have imposed travel bans on former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and former Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok as part of an investigation into alleged insurrection linked to former leader Yoon Suk Yeol’s purported martial law bid, according to a police official.

The travel ban was implemented in mid-May, Yonhap news agency reported. Han and Choi were questioned on Monday by a special police unit investigating former top government officials on insurrection charges, Yonhap said.

Following Yoon’s impeachment in December for violating his official duties, questions have arisen regarding Han and Choi’s roles in the former leader’s short-lived martial law declaration and whether they resisted the move as they have claimed.

The martial law declaration on December 3, which was revoked by parliament hours later, plunged South Korea into an unprecedented constitutional crisis involving both Han and Choi, who served as acting president during the period.
