Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), stated on Friday that the group is in direct communication with Turkey and is open to a meeting with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
Abdi’s statement signals a potential shift in relations between the SDF and Turkey.
In December, Turkey and the SDF reached a U.S.-mediated ceasefire following clashes that erupted as rebel groups advanced on Damascus and overthrew the government of Bashar al-Assad.
