The Coronation Street twist that confirmed Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) was in fact very much alive changed everything for Swarla fans.

The fanbase had spent months watching DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Carla Connor’s (Alison King) relationship blossom, all while Lisa slowly moved forward from Becky and allowed herself the opportunity to happy again.

It was a rocky road for Lisa. She got through many challenges for the sake of her future with Carla, only to then discover the woman she had spent a portion of her life grieving for never died in the line of duty.

Right?! Pretty game changing.

A couple of weeks ago, Becky explained her cover-up story. She said that she had spent the last four years in Spain under another name after being put into witness protection, following an undercover operation gone wrong.

Lisa was furious to discover that Becky had been targeting a dangerous gang, which had ultimately put the whole family in danger and led to the decision for Becky to go into hiding.

Though Becky insisted that she had left to keep both Lisa and daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) safe, Lisa argued that there must have been another way.

It was at this point in their reunion that Carla returned home, and Lisa left her stunned by introducing her to her dead wife, before storming out for some air.

The twist sparked a mixed reactions from audience members of the ITV soap. Some were intrigued as to what Becky’s return would mean for Swarla, while others believed it would’ve been best if Becky was actually dead.

One of the stars at the centre of this storyline is Sydney Martin, who plays Becky and Lisa’s daughter Betsy.

As the character continues to try and get her head around her mum’s return, star Sydney has confirmed there’s plenty more twists still ahead in this tale:

‘Becky is back!’, she told us at this year’s Inside Soap Awards.

‘Amy [Cudden] is fabulous. She’s such a lovely human being as well. I know on screen she’s causing chaos. I see it on Twitter! It’s a really entertaining storyline.

‘There’s some real twists, I think people will be surprised and it’s been really enjoyable to film. I hope people enjoy it even though it’s a little bit controversial, there’s some real good, juicy bits in there.’

Joining Sydney for the chat was her good pal Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren Bolton in the show. After being involved in some life-changing and traumatic ordeals, Lauren’s life is a lot quieter these days. She is currently working at the pub, working hard to provide for young Frankie.

With Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) returning soon as the new pub owner, Cait hopes her and Lauren will get on so she doesn’t lose her job!

‘I hope so. If not, then I don’t know what she’s going to do because she’s got a baby at home to feed’, she said.

‘I’m excited for people to see a different side to Lauren and how that relationship unravels – are they going to get on, are they going to clash? We’ll just have to wait and see, I guess.

‘I’m excited for people to see it.’
