There were devastating scenes in tonight’s Coronation Street as Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) tried to take her own life.
The trainee paramedic has been under a lot of stress this year, having lost friends in tragic circumstances, watched her twin brother move across the world and been assaulted at work.
Poor Asha was trying to help a drunk woman several weeks ago, only for the woman to turn aggressive and spit at her, while making racially abusive comments.
Things continued to escalate when Asha bumped into the woman, Naomi, at the Chariot Square Hotel, and confronted her for her actions.

Naomi claimed not to know what she was talking about, and warned Asha against making ‘false accusations’.
Wanting justice for her mistreatment, Asha reported Naomi to the police, while Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) came up with her own way of making Naomi pay.
Unfortunately, Bernie’s plan to expose Naomi as a racist at the careers fair backfired when the businesswoman announced she was suing her for making false allegations.
In order to get Naomi to back off, Asha was forced to drop her official complaint.
Asha has clearly struggled in the weeks following the incident, and has even been skipping work, leaving dad Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) concerned.

In tonight’s episode, things reached a devastating point which saw Asha attempt to take her own life.
Thankfully, Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) found her in Victoria Gardens, and managed to get help in time.
Dev was horrified when the paramedics tending to his daughter asked if she’d taken anything, and soon turned on Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey), accusing him of pushing drugs on Asha.
However, at the hospital, Dev’s heart broke when Asha admitted that she had taken the pills deliberately.
While Asha spoke to the mental health practitioner about how she’d been feeling, Dev apologised to Brody.

Later, things all got too much for Dev as he broke down to Bernie, admitting that the doctors were concerned the drugs Asha took may have caused some damage.
He confided in his wife that he was terrified of losing Asha, and berated himself for not spotting the signs that she was struggling.
Bernie was quick to offer him comfort and support, pointing out that it wasn’t his fault.
Will Dev be able to help Asha through this?
