A senior Houthi official has stated that the ceasefire agreement between Yemen’s Houthis and the United States does not extend to refraining from operations against Israel. This statement suggests that Houthi attacks on shipping, which have significantly disrupted global trade, may not cease entirely.
On Tuesday, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would halt its bombing campaign against the Houthis in Yemen, citing an agreement that the group would cease interfering with important shipping lanes in the Middle East.
Following Trump’s announcement, Oman stated that it had mediated the ceasefire deal, which aimed to stop attacks on U.S. vessels.
There have been no reported Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea area since January.
However, Mohammed Abdulsalam, the chief Houthi negotiator, clarified the scope of the agreement, telling Reuters, “The agreement does not include Israel in any way, shape or form.”
