On Thursday, Turkey’s justice minister stated that the arrest of Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was founded on criminal reports and was not influenced by the timing of the opposition CHP party’s nomination of Imamoglu as its presidential candidate. Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc emphasized at a press conference in Istanbul that the decision to detain Imamoglu was justified given the serious nature of the accusations he faces.
