It’s very rare that exes are on the same page in soap, but thankfully that is exactly what happened in tonight’s Coronation Street.
Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) made her long-awaited return to the cobbles after several months away, and she instantly found herself in trouble.
Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) was shocked to find that Bethany had been accused of stealing her boss’s car.
She explained that she genuinely didn’t think Ms Stokes would notice her car had gone missing, due to her having so many others.
Bethany failed to reveal quite a key piece of information though. Once Kit picked up on her referencing a colleague in past tense, Bethany confirmed that she actually quit the magazine company a week ago.
Not ideal.
Bethany had two choices – quit the job or get fired. This was because she had been working herself to the bone for a story. As a result of working too many hours without a break, Bethany sent an email to the wrong person and landed in huge trouble.
Bethany’s whole world could’ve changed in that interview, but fortunately Kit just so happens to be her mum’s boyfriend.
A while later, we saw Bethany back in Weatherfield. Kit had managed to get her off the hook, and they both agreed to hide the incident from Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien).
As she got settled back into life on the cobbles, Bethany turned her attention to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), her ex. Prior to departing, Bethany was involved in a complicated love triangle storyline with Daniel and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan).
With Daisy gone, it offered Daniel and Bethany the opportunity to talk.
Drinks in the Bistro saw Bethany make her opinion towards Daniel perfectly clear. She had absolutely no intention of getting back with him, and quite harshly said that she wouldn’t go near Daniel again even if he was the last man on Earth.
In fact, she’d rather live in a monastery in the North Pole if we’re really talking about the details.
Bethany expected Daniel to beg and ask to get back together but interestingly – he didn’t.
In fact, Daniel completely agreed with everything Bethany said. He announced that he doesn’t think they’re good for each other, he just asked her for a drink to apologise for hurting her.
The two characters smiled, clearly happy to be just friends.
Daniel hurt Bethany a lot in the love triangle storyline, as he often found himself torn between her and Daisy.
Daisy and Daniel had a one night stand, and when she discovered she was pregnant there was a 50/50 chance that the baby was Daniel’s – the other candidate being Kit.
When Bethany revealed that she and Daniel had set their wedding date, Daisy dropped the bombshell that Daniel could be the father of her baby – much to the humiliation of Bethany. She then left for a new life in London.
We last saw Bethany in February. Amid the drama with Daniel, the character had been through a tumultuous time after having a liposuction operation in Turkey.
This went wrong, with life-threatening consequences for Bethany. She developed sepsis during the operation and ended up needing a permanent stoma bag.
Lucy Fallon said a brief goodbye to life on the cobbles for her maternity leave. She has since given birth to a daughter, Nancy Margaret, who is a sister for her son Sonny Jude.
The actress shared gorgeous pictures of the new arrival on her Instagram in January, saying she was ‘in a bubble.’
