Fans of the Netflix series One Piece are rejoicing as it gets the season three greenlight before the second season has even come out.
The hit live-action adaptation of the popular anime had a hugely successful first season, totting up 72 million views (and becoming the third most-watched TV show of 2023 overall).
Now the trailer for the second season, starring Inaki Godoy and Emily Rudd, has finally dropped, confirming it will return in 2026, three years after it initially came out.
The series, which has garnered an exceptionally loyal and sprawling fanbase over the years, follows young pirate Monkey D. Luffy ‘with his straw hat and ragtag crew [who] goes on an epic voyage for treasure.’
As shown in the epic new trailer, the highly anticipated new episodes have plenty more peril in store for our swash-buckling heroes in their pursuit of greatness.

The official synopsis promises ‘fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet’.
It continues: ‘Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line – a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn.
‘As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.’
Netflix have ramped up the excitement by confirming season three is on the way with production to start later this year in South Africa’s capital Cape Town as Ian Stokes joins Joe Tracz as co-showrunner.
The streaming service, which has made a name for itself for cancelling shows, has been praised by fans for backing the vision and greenlighting a third season early.
Rather than leaving everyone on tenterhooks.

After an agonisingly long wait (and a while still to go) fans have only request for the third season.
‘I swear to god, season three better not take another three years,’ allelite_kal declared.
‘Hopefully this means that this one won’t take three years to release as well,’ Zentaya agreed.
‘Very happy to see season 3 already be renewed, but it’ll probably take another 2 years after season 2 for it to come out,’ andraws_67 shared their concern.
There’s plenty more source material to draw inspiration from for future seasons with the original TV series, which premiered in 1999, marking over 1,100 episodes and counting.
Fans can look forward to the introduction of characters like Dr Kunhera with executive producer Matt Owens previously sharing: ‘When the Season 2 writers’ room got together, we knew how far we were going to get and that this character Dr. Kureha was going to be a big part of the season.’
We’ll also meet the beloved reindeer-boy hybrid Tony Tony Chopper so there is lots to be excited about.
One Piece season one is streaming on Netflix now. Season two comes out in 2026 and there is currently no release date for season three.
