The presidential candidate endorsed by Poland’s leading nationalist opposition party, Law and Justice (PiS), participated in the National Day of Prayer at the White House on Thursday, according to his campaign team. Poles are set to cast their votes in the first round of the presidential election on May 18, with the next president’s priority being to foster strong relations with the United States, which is viewed as crucial for the nation’s security.
Adam Bielan, a PiS Member of the European Parliament, shared a photo on X of Karol Nawrocki, the conservative historian supported by the party in the presidential race, mingling with attendees at the event outside the White House prior to President Donald Trump’s speech. The leader of Nawrocki’s campaign team ridiculed the leading candidate in the presidential contest, Rafal Trzaskowski from the ruling Civic Coalition (KO), who held a rally alongside Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Sopot, Tusk’s hometown. ‘Trzaskowski with Tusk in Sopot, Nawrocki with Trump in the White House,’ Pawel Szefernaker commented on X.
Trzaskowski’s team has not yet responded. Trzaskowski and Nawrocki are anticipated to compete in a run-off election on June 1, provided that no candidate secures over 50% of the votes in the initial round.
