President Tinubu Pledges Improved Welfare for Nigerian Police

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerian police personnel that his administration will adjust their salaries and benefits to reflect the gravity of their duties and the risks they face daily, demonstrating a strong commitment to police welfare.

Speaking at the maiden edition of National Police Day at Eagle Square in Abuja, the president, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to reforming and empowering the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

President Tinubu stated that a secure Nigeria is vital for collective prosperity, and this vision begins with ensuring that the police force is well-equipped, well-trained, and well-motivated.

To institutionalize the celebration and honor those who have served and sacrificed, President Tinubu officially declared April 7th of every year as National Police Day. The day will serve to remember fallen heroes and recognize the ongoing heroics of police officers in service across the nation.

As part of the administration’s strategic efforts to revamp the police force, the president outlined several reforms, including:

  • Improved salary structures and benefits tailored to the risks officers face
  • Provision of modern policing tools and technologies
  • Enhanced training and operational capacities
  • Adequate housing for personnel
  • Access to quality healthcare
  • Education support for police families

President Tinubu also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and his leadership team for their ongoing efforts in aligning police reforms with the administration’s broader vision of national security and public service excellence.

In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun emphasized that National Police Day is more than a ceremonial event—it is a solemn occasion to honor fallen heroes and celebrate the courage of men and women serving in challenging operational theaters across Nigeria.
