Republicans support Trump’s trade tariff measures.

China, Mexico, and Canada have reacted strongly against Trump’s sanctions, while Republicans demonstrated solid support for the policies over the weekend.

JD Vance, who is Donald Trump’s vice-president, stated on social media that Mexico “exports a significant amount of fentanyl into our country,” and that Canada “has experienced a substantial rise in fentanyl trafficking across its border.” Consequently, he mentioned that the US is now facing the “consequences phase.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed that Trump is “reestablishing America’s safety and success” and referred to the tariffs as “long overdue.”

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed her support for the initiative, stating on social media: “Tariffs serve as a strong and established means of safeguarding our national interests.” However, not all members of the Republican Party are on board. Senator Mitch McConnell cautioned that the tariffs would increase expenses for Americans, questioning: “What’s the point of clashing with your allies over this?”
