Romanian Prime Minister Resigns After Presidential Election Setback

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu resigned on Monday after the candidate supported by his pro-Western coalition failed to advance to the second round of the presidential election.

Ciolacu announced that his center-left Social Democratic Party (PSD) would withdraw from the ruling coalition. However, cabinet ministers will remain in their positions in an interim capacity until a new parliamentary majority is formed following the presidential run-off election.
