Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) reaches breaking point in upcoming episodes of Coronation Street, as the popular character is rushed to A&E after an apparent overdose – but was it a deliberate attempt to take her own life?
Asha has been suffering for weeks with anxiety and panic attacks following a particularly gruelling shift in her job as a paramedic.
A special episode followed what she went through on the day, which included witnessing a tragic death and being racially abused and physically attacked by someone she was trying to help.
‘She’s absolutely spiralling,’ Tanisha Gorey said, ‘but I don’t think she realises just how bad she is feeling and of course without talking to anyone about it, she’s not going to get the help that she desperately needs.’
Already struggling with this, things became worse when she saw the woman who’d attacked her, Naomi (Melissa Batchelor), at an event at the hotel. Naomi denied doing anything wrong, leaving Asha feeling frustrated and helpless.
Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) tried to wade in to support her, but this only resulted in Naomi threatening to sue Bernie. To get her to stop this course of action, Asha was forced to drop the complaint she’d made to the police.
Struggling in the aftermath of all this, Nina (Mollie Gallagher) has noticed that Asha has started drinking heavily but her attempt to support her friend only resulted in Asha telling Nina she finds her ‘suffocating.’
In upcoming episodes, Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) discovers from his daughter’s work colleague Sienna (Charlotte Tyree) that Asha still hasn’t returned to work.
Concerned, he reveals to Asha that he knows she’s lying about going to work. She’s embarrassed to be caught out and refuses to explain to him, storming out.
With Bernie and Dev away at the hotel for their wedding night, Bernie confides in Dev that she’s worried about Asha. It’s not long before Dev gets a phone call from Amy (Elle Mulvaney), who’s found Asha in a bad way. He rushes off to find his daughter.

He finds a paramedic caring for her and they ask if Asha could have taken drugs in addition to the wine that Brody (Ryan Mulvey) has seen her drinking earlier.
Asha is taken to hospital, where Dev waits anxiously for news. He’s approached by Sienna, who says that the paramedics found drugs on Asha.
Bernie wonders whether Asha deliberately tried to end her life, but he can’t face the idea and struggles to hide his emotions.
