Sweden, Norway, Lithuania, Finland: Joint Vehicle Buy

Sweden, Lithuania, Norway, and Finland are exploring a joint acquisition of several hundred CV90 infantry combat vehicles manufactured by BAE Systems, as stated by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Tuesday. The four nations are currently preparing a statement of intent to collaborate on the procurement of these military assets, Kristersson announced during a joint press conference with Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas.

In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and U.S. calls for European NATO members to enhance their security responsibilities, countries in the Nordic and Baltic regions, five of which share a border with Russia, are significantly increasing their defense budgets.

“We haven’t finalized all decisions yet, but the sooner we reach conclusions, the quicker these vehicles can be delivered to our national armed forces,” Kristersson remarked. “We are at least considering the acquisition of several hundred vehicles, which are quite expensive,” he added. The CV90 is manufactured by a Swedish subsidiary of BAE Systems, the largest defense company in Europe.
