Syria will maintain Islamic law as the primary foundation of its legal system while ensuring the protection of freedom of opinion and expression, as stated in a constitutional declaration prepared by specialists and endorsed by interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa on Thursday.
A legal expert from the committee established by Sharaa, which was appointed less than two weeks prior, presented a summary of the declaration’s 44 articles.
