Britain has expressed its concerns regarding China’s “dangerous and destabilising” actions in the South China Sea, as stated by British Foreign Minister David Lammy on Monday.
Lammy emphasized in a post on X, “We are troubled by China’s dangerous and destabilising activities in the South China Sea. The safety and security of these trade routes are vital for the UK and the global economy.”
In a video accompanying his statement, Lammy noted, “The Philippines is directly impacted by these Chinese actions, facing ongoing threats to freedom of navigation and adherence to international law.”
These comments come after Lammy’s recent visit to the Philippines, which has been strengthening its security alliances with nations like Britain in response to escalating tensions in the South China Sea and confrontations with China.
Over the weekend, Britain and the Philippines formalized a joint framework agreement aimed at enhancing collaboration in areas such as defence, regional security, and climate initiatives.
