The United Nations human rights chief stated on Thursday that the display of bodies in Gaza is reprehensible and contravenes international law.
Hamas returned the bodies of Israeli infant Kfir Bibas and his four-year-old brother Airel, who were the youngest captives taken during the October 7, 2023 attack. Additionally, the remains of their mother, Shiri Bibas, and another hostage, Oded Lifschitz, were also returned in accordance with the ceasefire agreement established last month.

Volker Turk emphasized in a statement that “under international law, the transfer of remains must adhere to the prohibition of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment, ensuring that the dignity of the deceased and their families is respected.”
