According to a poll conducted on Tuesday, a small majority of Germans support the deployment of Bundeswehr forces as part of a potential peacekeeping force in Ukraine to oversee any agreed-upon ceasefire.
As U.S. and Russian officials meet to discuss ending the three-year-old war, European leaders are worried about being left out of discussions on Ukraine’s future security and are thinking about potential contributions to any future peace mission.
According to a Forsa survey conducted for Stern magazine, 49% of Germans supported such a deployment, 44% were against it, and 7% did not vote.

According to the survey, 52% of respondents in western Germany supported involvement, whereas 65% of respondents in the former Communist eastern states were against it. 83% of voters who support the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) would oppose deployment, according to the survey.
A spokesman for the defense ministry stated on Monday that if a framework were established, Germany would not be reluctant to contribute. Any choice, though, would most likely be left to a new German government following Sunday’s federal election.
The survey took place on February 13 and 14.
