Nsukka, Enugu State – The South-East Elders Alliance for Tinubu 2027, Enugu North Senatorial District chapter, has publicly declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office. The group, at its inauguration in Nsukka, Enugu State, highlighted what they perceive as significant benefits accruing to the South-East geo-political zone under Tinubu’s administration, particularly the appointment of individuals from Nsukka to high-profile federal positions.
In a communiqué signed by key leaders, the alliance pointed to several federal appointments as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to inclusivity:
- Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla – Chief of Naval Staff
- Frank Mba – Deputy Inspector General of Police
- Prof. Melvin D. Ayogu – Board Member, Central Bank of Nigeria
- Dr. Mrs. Amaka Onu – Board Member, Federal Polytechnic, Jigawa State
- Hon. Favour Nkem Asogwa – Board Member, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State
- Chief Eva Asadu – Member, Anambra Imo River Development Basin
- Major General E. I. Okoro – Military Secretary, Nigerian Army
- Prof. Iliyasu Usman – First Igbo Imam of Central Mosque, Abuja
The group asserted that the people of Enugu North Senatorial District have “never had it this good” under any previous federal administration, emphasizing the broader significance of these appointments for the Igbo nation.
While expressing gratitude, the elders also presented a list of demands to President Tinubu:
- State Creation: Initiate a constitutional amendment bill to facilitate the creation of new states.
- Economic Stabilization: Stabilize the naira and refine the subsidy program to ease inflation and reduce fuel and food prices.
- Digital Security: Establish a Digital Response Unit within the Nigerian security architecture to address rising insecurity.
The alliance acknowledged the prevailing economic hardship in the country, urging the president to prioritize economic relief measures.
The group also appealed for national unity and support for Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that completing the South’s 8-year presidential mandate could promote peace and reduce political tensions surrounding the 2027 elections.
