U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that the United States is nearing a nuclear deal with Iran, adding that Tehran has “sort of” agreed to the terms.
According to an AFP pool report, Trump made the comments during a tour of the Gulf, saying “We’re in very serious negotiations with Iran for long-term peace.”
Recent talks between Iranian and U.S. negotiators in Oman to resolve disputes over Tehran’s nuclear program concluded on Sunday with plans for further negotiations. Tehran has publicly insisted on continuing its uranium enrichment.
Despite both Tehran and Washington expressing a preference for diplomacy, they remain divided on key issues, requiring negotiators to navigate several red lines to reach a new nuclear deal and prevent potential military action.
