The approval rating of Prime Minister Keir Starmer among Britons has increased as he intensifies his diplomatic efforts regarding the conflict in Ukraine, according to a recent opinion poll.
Starmer engaged with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on February 27 and facilitated discussions that included Ukraine’s president and European leaders on March 2. He has emphasized his role as a mediator while also seeking to shield Britain from potential U.S. tariffs.
An Ipsos UK poll conducted for The Times revealed that 30% of Britons now believe Starmer is performing well as prime minister, a rise from 23% the previous month, although 45% still view his performance negatively.
The Ipsos survey was conducted online from March 4 to 5.
Starmer’s meeting with Trump occurred just a day before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confronted the U.S. president in the Oval Office, where U.S. policy on Ukraine has been significantly altered.

During their discussions in London last Sunday, European leaders agreed to formulate a peace plan to present to Washington, and on Thursday, EU leaders supported increased defense spending.
The Ipsos poll indicated that 44% of Britons believe government expenditure on defense should be raised, even if it necessitates additional borrowing, higher taxes, or reduced funding for other public services, marking an increase from 42% in February.
Ipsos surveyed 981 adults aged 18-75 across the UK.
