6 new things you need to watch on Netflix this week

There’s times when you might feel as though you’ve watched everything decent Netflix has to offer – but is that really the case? The streaming platform has no shortage of gems to get your binge-watching brain around – from unknown finds to the many new shows and films that crowd the service each week. 1. A House Of Dynamite

A new Kathryn Bigelow movie is always a reason to get excited and this latest effort from the Oscar-winning Hurt Locker director looks as if it’ll be another belter. Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba (as the US president no less) lead the cast in this tense political thriller, which plays out in real time as the US government has to respond to a nuclear missile launch which has been aimed at Chicago by an unknown foreign power. Nobody Wants This was one of the breakout hits of 2024, so it’s no surprise to see it return for a second series. The show features Kristen Bell as dating podcaster Joanne, who falls into an unexpected relationship with a rabbi (Adam Brody), which brings all sorts of challenges with it given their different religious backgrounds and their interfering families. It’s been a fantastic year for Korean language films and shows on Netflix, and now here’s another which is more than worthy of your attention. This one’s a comedy drama which stars Ryu Seung-ryong as Kim Nak-soo, a middle-aged businessman who is forced to re-examine his life after a sudden, unexpected downfall – and in doing so heads off on a journey of self-discovery. If you’re looking for some lighter viewing after watching A House Of Dynamite and The Perfect Neigbor, this should more than fit the bill (Picture: Netflix)

4. The Monster Of Florence

More true crime now, this one centred around a notorious serial killer who terrorised the Italian city of Florence. The titular murderer killed couples in and around Florence between 1968 and 1985, resulting in 16 victims, who were often targeted in rural or secluded areas. However the case is considered to be unsolved, with many disputing the identity of the killer and the main suspect being acquitted and dying before a new trial could take place. If you’ve never tuned in to the delights of The Diplomat, now’s your chance – although you’ll have a fair bit of catching up to do since this popular show is already into its third series. Keri Russell takes the lead as Kate Wyler, a US ambassador to the UK who finds herself thrown into an emerging international crisis, while at the same time trying to manage her marriage to Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), a former US ambassador to Lebanon and Iraq. 6. The Perfect Neighbor

This new documentary feature is gaining some serious word of mouth , as well as tapping into the true crime obsession which continues to dominate Netflix. The Perfect Neighbor uses police bodycam footage to recount the events which led to the killing of Ajike Owens in Ocala, Florida, in 2023.
