Five Jewish institutions in Paris were vandalized with green paint overnight, prompting a police investigation, according to a police source on Saturday.
The vandalism, discovered early Saturday, targeted the Shoah Memorial (the Holocaust museum in Paris), three synagogues, and a restaurant in the historic Jewish neighborhood of Le Marais, the source said.
French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau expressed his disgust on X, calling the acts “despicable” and aimed at the Jewish community.
The perpetrators and their motives remain unknown. The Interior Ministry has not yet responded to requests for comment.
France has experienced a rise in hate crimes, with police recording an 11% increase in racist, xenophobic, or antireligious crimes last year, according to official data released in March. The data did not provide a breakdown of attacks targeting specific religions.
