The immediate past Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, yesterday officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adelabu while speaking at the declaration event held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, promised a “Rebirth Agenda” if elected during the 2027 general election, pledging to reposition the state’s economy and ensure massive job creation.
Prominent APC leaders present at the declaration include Alhaji Mufutau Adisa Gbayawu, Hon. Lekan Adeyemo, Alhaji Abu Gbadamosi, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Alhaji Wale Sanusi, Chief Goke Oyetunji, Chief Muyibi Oluokun, Alhaji Bao, Hon. Diran Ogundijo, Sunday Adewale, and Alhaji Rasheed Folarin, among others.
The party leaders urged APC members and residents of the state to rally behind Adelabu, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity and administrative competence.
According to them, Adelabu’s track record in both the public and private sectors places him ahead of other aspirants within the party.
The former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), while presenting his address, said the declaration event marked the beginning of a movement to restore, rebuild, reposition, and reclaim Oyo State for genuine progress, prosperity, and people-centred governance.
He maintained that his development blueprint, tagged “Oyo Rebirth Agenda,” would feature effective local government administration and grassroots development, modern security architecture and public safety, and an agricultural revolution.
He further stated that, if given a chance, his agenda would focus on comprehensive social welfare, education reform, health transformation, urban development, civil service reforms, and women’s empowerment, among others.
The Parakoyi of Ibadanland however called for continued unity among members of the APC in the state, stating that unity remained a pathway to victory for the party in the forthcoming elections.
“This project is bigger than one man. It is a collective mission. We must unite, we must close ranks. We must prioritise party supremacy, discipline, and shared victory over individual ambition.
“There is no progress without unity. There is no victory without solidarity. I call on all APC leaders, aspirants, stakeholders, and members: let us work together. Let us build together, let us win together,” Adelabu said.
According to him, he was offering himself not as a perfect man, but as a prepared leader.
