Regarding those who accuse Sir Keir Starmer as being soft on China because we need their money (MetroTalk, Wed).
The Tories, under David Cameron, put Britain in this most vulnerable position in their push for austerity.
And it’s Labour that is trying (against the efforts of the Tories and Reform) to get us all back to some sort of better way of life, along with a more robust national security situation.

The cost of Labour’s plan to introduce digital ID – in part to combat the black economy, which is seen as a pull factor in illegal immigration – is predicted to be as much as £2billion.

Reader notes disparity between quality of life and death for wagyu beef
Having read your article on wagyu beef (Metro, Oct 15), no doubt these prized cows live in luxury while alive but what about the dreaded abbatoir?
I’ve seen horrendous footage on Facebook. Worse still are the livestock slaughtered under halal or kosher law that are not stunned first. This should be banned. We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers but we are far from it. Lesley, Bristol
