A father has been handed a 35-year jail sentence after throwing his infant daughter at a television in an ‘uncontrollable’ fit of rage.

Rhydian Jamieson, 28, from Cwm Cou, Newcastle Emlyn, hurled the baby girl before departing the scene without checking on her, Swansea Crown Court was told.

Jamieson, who admitted to attempted murder at Swansea Crown Court in April of the previous year, was characterised by the judge as showing ‘not a scintilla of true remorse’ for his actions.

Caroline Rees KC told the court that emergency services were called to a property in Y Ferwig, Ceredigion, on January 15 last year.

The baby was immediately taken to Glangwili Hospital, Wales Online reported, before being transferred to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

The court was told that Jamieson initially tried to retract his guilty plea, refused to co-operate with pre-sentence reports, and had previously made remarks attempting to blame a family member for the child’s injuries.

He was also depicted as being ‘consumed purely by self-pity.’

Jamieson’s criminal record includes convictions for driving offences, criminal damage, common assault, stalking, and public disorder.

The child’s family delivered harrowing impact statements, branding Jamieson a ‘pathetic man-child who wanted to inflict pain on an innocent child.’

Jamieson declined to appear at his sentencing hearing, insisting he had been wrongly charged and had already endured sufficient mental anguish.
