Body found on Welsh beach in search for missing 52-year-old

A man’s body has been found on a beach in South Wales after a 52-year-old man went missing last week.

A search had been underway in the Gower peninsula of South Wales after the car of missing Matthew Whale was found.

Police said today that a man’s body had been found on Rhossili Beach, but formal identification has not taken place.

The family of missing man Matthew Whale had been informed.

Officers had previously issued a missing person’s appeal for Mr Whale, from Killay in Swansea, after his car was found in Rhossili.

HM Coastguard was involved in the search for Mr Whale on Saturday afternoon, with helicopters circling the area.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: ‘A body of a man has been found on Rhossili Beach, Swansea.

‘While formal identification has not yet taken place, the family of missing man Matthew Whale has been informed.’

Tributes have poured in for Whale on Facebook, with one well-wisher writing: ‘This is truly saddening news.

‘He was an exceptionally kind individual, always willing to help and consistently pleasant to everyone. Thoughts are with Matthew’s family. RIP Matthew.’
