The alleged suspect behind the mass shooting in a remote Canadian town has been pictured holding a gun and wrote that they were feeling ‘pretty aimless’ six months ago, Metro can reveal.

Jesse Strang has been named as the alleged shooter in Tumbler Ridge in British Columbia, Canada.

Six people were shot dead in Tumbler Ridge secondary school and one person died on the way to the hospital.

Two more people were found dead inside a home in the ‘close-knit’ town, while at least 25 people were injured in the rampage.

Metro can now reveal that Jesse Strang – who was named as the suspect by CTV News- came from a family which appeared to have a gun cabinet and went ‘hunting’.

Jesse has very little online social media presence, with the most up-to-date photo of the suspect being from their mum’s Instagram in July 2024.

Jesse appears to be behind a since-deleted YouTube account.

In a Facebook post, their mum posted: ‘Check out my oldest son Jesse Strang YouTube channel. He posts about hunting, self reliance, guns and stuff he likes to do.’

The post continued: ‘He doesn’t go on much other social media, so this is his way of sharing his life.’

The YouTube channel was live on Wednesday morning but has since been removed by YouTube.

The account appears to show that the suspect goes by ‘she/her’ pronouns and called themselves Jess.

The channel had only one post on it, in which they appeared to write six month ago: ‘I’ve been pretty um, aimless. :P’

The name of the channel, JessJessUwU, could reference a meme about the furry community.

Pictures posted online by Jesse’s family appear to show the suspect’s family home had a gun cabinet.

In August 2024, the mum posted a picture of six guns in a cabinet on Facebook, with the caption: ‘Think it’s time to take them out for some target practice’.

The suspected shooter has also been pictured holding a rifle on social media.

In August 2021, Jesse’s grandparents posted a picture of Jesse holding a rifle-type gun.

One tragic photo post shows Jesse’s mum was horrified at the gun violence which her child allegedly later committed.

Jesse’s mum posted on Instagram after Charlie Kirk was shot to dead in September 2025.

She wrote: ‘Sheesh… I’m glad I’m not far right or far left. Political extremism blinded by rage is mental.’

During the shooting, Jesse was described as a ‘female in a dress with brown hair’ by an emergency alert sent to locals in Tumbler Ridge.

Police first received a report of an active shooter at 1.20pm local time (9.20pm in the UK).

Pupils in the close-knit school described how they barricaded themselves inside their classrooms for two hours during what has become one of the deadliest school shootings in the country’s history.

Around 100 students and staff were evacuated from the school after officers arrived at the scene.

One of the victims, Maya Edmonds, 12, was shot in the neck and head while attending Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.

A fundraiser has been set up to help support Maya through her recovery, with her mum writing: ‘I’m writing this post sitting in Vancouver Children’s hospital while my daughter fights for her life.

‘Today started as any other. Now, however, my 12-year-old daughter is fighting for her life while they try to repair the damage from a gunshot wound to the head. And one to the neck.

‘She was a lucky one, I suppose. Condolences to the other families during this tragedy. This doesn’t even feel real.’
