An action-packed pirate drama which is available to stream for free on ITVX has been dubbed ‘one of the most underrated shows ever’ by fans.
After first airing in 2014, Black Sails produced four ‘incredible’ seasons before ending in 2017.
Following Captain Flint (Toby Stephens), Hannah New (Eleanor Guthrie) and a young John Silver (Luke Arnold) in 1715, the drama serves as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.
It also sees the pair fight for the survival of Nassau, a pirate-run Bahamian colony, against British, Spanish and rival threats.
In 2023, viewers called Black Sails ‘better than Game of Thrones’ after all episodes landed on Netflix.
Now, after finding a home on ITVX, viewers are still raving about the pirate drama that has ‘aged like a fine wine’.
Writing on IMDb, where the show has earned an 8.2 rating out of 10, Amir said: ‘It is absolutely amazing. The actors are all great, the set design and overall world is beautiful and the action scenes are intense.
‘This show grips you and you want to continue watching and it’s honestly hard to stop.’
Calling it ‘awesome’, Rob also added: ‘Black Sails is absolutely one of the most underrated shows ever. It was so good that I binged the entire series in a week.
On the hunt for another gritty period drama?
‘Everything about this show is damn near perfect…the writing, acting, cinematography, production value, costumes, all of it!
‘This is by far the best series I’ve ever seen about pirates and definitely a show that is for adults. I was hooked from the very first episode through to the very last. Every season is fantastic.’
Singing the show’s praises, Hakihiko dubbed it ‘an adventurous mastericlass in pirate drama’, while Alexander said ‘like a fine wine it gets better with age’.
In addition, JC Hopkins claimed it is ‘one of the best shows of the last decade’, as Fung declared: ‘It’s impossible to overrate this series.’
Running for 38 episodes, the show also stars The Umbrella Academy’s Tom Hopper, Jessica Parker Kennedy and Zach McGowan.
This comes after Netflix left fans in a chokehold after releasing all eight episodes of a ‘dangerously sexy’ drama.
Starring Rachel Weisz and Leo Woodall, the new Netflix drama is 8 episodes in which an academic becomes obsessed with a younger colleague.
And following its release, viewers are already hailing it as ‘much darker than expected’.
Black Sails is available to stream on ITVX.
