Public affairs commentator and policy analyst, Charles Omole, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for what he described as sustained courage, operational boldness, and measurable progress in Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight under its current leadership.
Omole, in a detailed public statement, said his assessment was based on close observation of the Commission’s activities over the past 18 months, noting that the EFCC appears to be operating with a higher level of institutional independence compared to previous administrations.
According to him, only the pioneering EFCC era under former Chairman Nuhu Ribadu enjoyed similar operational freedom in the fight against corruption and financial crimes.

The proposed advisory body would also help review controversial incidents and offer recommendations directly to the EFCC Chairman on matters affecting public trust.
According to Omole, such a structure would prevent perceptions that the agency is “marking its own exams” while improving institutional credibility and citizen cooperation.

Despite acknowledging imperfections within the Commission, Omole maintained that the EFCC remains one of Nigeria’s most important anti-corruption institutions.
He argued that the agency was never created to pursue popularity but rather effectiveness in combating corruption, financial crimes, and economic sabotage.
According to him, Nigeria’s situation would likely be significantly worse without the Commission’s operations and sustained anti-corruption interventions.
