A new Coronation Street trailer has been revealed that confirms even more proposal drama for Swarla, and an abuse storyline for Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).
With autumn around the corner, the drama is ramping up in Weatherfield. This September, characters in the spotlight will be Todd, Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Carla Connor (Alison King), as well as troubled teens Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) and Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne).
The teaser for next month’s storylines, released earlier today, confirms a physical abuse storyline, as Theo is seen confronting Todd and grabbing him by the face.
Their relationship so far has been incredibly complicated, due to a multitude of aspects from Theo’s past. Despite the challenges, Todd has been determined to help Theo, certain they could get through anything together.
‘I think we have a more mature version of Todd now’, star Gareth Pierce told us in July.
‘I think going through losing a young friend like Paul, it’s made him rehabilitate himself and prove he’s changed. I think we definitely do have a more mature version of Todd that is maybe able to deal with what life throws at him, but we can’t forget that not too long ago we had a Todd that felt a little bit like the boy that had never grown up.
‘I think he might have a creeping feeling that this is too big for him and that he is out of his depth but also, I think he’s changed to the point that he’s more likely to see fault in himself than the other person, and be willing to try.’
We’ve seen previously that Theo has a dark side. He’s expressed his feelings of jealousy when if he’s seen Todd with the likes of James Bailey (Jason Callender) and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), and even made his boyfriend sleep on the sofa by way of punishment at one point.
There has been signs, but this trailer has now confirmed for the first time that Todd will be subjected to physical and emotional abuse by Theo.
Elsewhere on the cobbles, Brody continues to try and stay on the straight and narrow, but is set to get drawn back into crime by Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard).
Away from his affair with Abi Webster (Sally Carman), he needs help with his car stealing scam and enlists Brody and Dylan, but the plot is set to have devastating consequences.
In the trailer, we see Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) on the phone as a car approaches behind her – is she about to get hit?
Swarla are also a strong focus next month, as Carla grows determined to propose following her failed attempt.
A few days ago, Carla planned to propose but things went awry when she discovered Becky, Lisa’s late partner, asked the question in a very similar way to what Carla had organised.
She put things on hold which means now, Carla is absolutely certain everything needs to be done correctly this time round, and even asks for Betsy’s permission to pop the question.
Are they a step closer to their happy ever after?
Potentially not, as the trailer also shows Lisa looking upset and in distress. Could this impact Carla’s big plan?
And what has caused Lisa to react like this?

Let’s not forget the pap pictures of Alison King and Vicky Myers filming in a park that were released in July.
We haven’t seen these scenes on screen yet and given both stars are wearing coats, it could fuel the theory they will air in the autumn – which is creeping up on us.
As Lisa walks through the park, Carla follows in a rush – is she chasing after her, or is Lisa storming away?
Could Lisa’s tears have been triggered by an argument between them, or has something else knocked her for six?
