‘I feel like I can almost allow myself to feel happy’, said Emmerdale’s Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) just weeks ago, before remarking that the future has a nasty habit of ‘slapping you hard in the face’.
We should’ve known there and then that this was a bad omen for what was to come.
In the land of soap, one simply doesn’t get to experience happiness for long – if at all – and commenting on how happy one is is almost certainly a sign that things will subsequently take a turn for the worse.
As Dawn said herself, the future can rear its ugly head and change things on a dime. And unfortunately for her, this is seemingly what will transpire.
It has since been revealed that Dawn, a mainstay of the ITV soap for eight years, is set to exit in upcoming scenes, with an explosive goodbye storyline planned.
How exactly her departure from the village will unfold remains to be seen but the events to come must knock her for six given that she was only just commenting how happy she is up at Home Farm with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) – so much so she was even contemplating having a baby with him.
Joe, meanwhile, has descended to new lows in a bid to win the war he’s waged with the Dingles after swooping in and getting his hands on Butlers farm.
The businessman has never been a saint and is renowned for his inability to accept defeat but his underhanded methods this time around have left even those closest to him speechless, with recent scenes seeing him have Holly’s grave destroyed.
Upon getting wind of this, Dawn – who has ignored a number of her beau’s lowball tactics thus far – told Joe that their relationship would be over if she found out that he was to blame for doing something so horrible.
So could this perhaps be what leads to her departing the village? Realising that Joe isn’t the nice guy that she thought he was?
We’ll just have to wait and see.
Dawn’s exit was reported earlier this week. ‘Olivia [Bromley] is adored by everyone at Emmerdale so the decision to axe her has not gone down well at all’, a source told The Sun.
