Demi Lovato has cancelled five concerts on her upcoming tour to allow herself more time to ‘rest and rehearse’.

The American singer, 33, began her career as a child star on Barney & Friends, going on to appear in the Camp Rock films alongside the Jonas Brothers, before releasing her debut album Don’t Forget in 2008.

In the years since she’s released a further eight albums, acted as a judge on The X Factor and also been the focus of three documentaries – which detailed her struggles with an eating disorder, substance abuse and self-harm.

Late last year she released her It’s Not That Deep album and had been set to kick off its associated tour in Orlando, Florida, on April 10.

However, the singer has now announced she’s pushing back the start date of the tour, with five of her shows also being cut completely.

Posting a lengthy statement on social media, she addressed fans directly and wrote: ‘My Lovatics – I am so excited to get back on stage this year and visit you in as many cities as I can. While starting to prepare for the tour, I realised that I have overextended what may be possible.

‘To protect my health and ensure I can give you my all at each show, I need to build in more time to rest and rehearse and ultimately adjust to a schedule with some more time off that will allow me to handle the entire run of the tour.’

She then went on to share that shows in Charlotte, Nashville, Atlanta, Las Vegas, and Denver would not be going ahead.

‘I am so sad to say that I will no longer be able to see you on this tour, and I am so sorry to those who planned to be there,’ she continued. ‘Orlando – we are moving your show to April 13th and will kick off there.’

Demi had initially been scheduled to perform in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 8, Atlanta, Georgia, on April 12, Nashville, Tennessee, on April 14, Denver, Colorado, on May 5, and Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 8.

In her statement, she told fans that refunds for the cancelled shows were already being processed if tickets were bought through Ticketmaster or AXS.

However, fans who got tickets from third-party resellers including StubHub or SeatGeek, had to reach out to the site for a refund.

Concluding her post, Demi added: ‘‘Additional tickets are available on demilovato.com/tour. I am so excited for this tour and am looking forward to seeing so many of your faces singing with me. Thank you for your support always. I love you and I cannot wait to see you soon.’

Demi’s tour is now set to run from April 13 until May 12, during which she will play shows across 17 US cities, as well as a show in Toronto. The tour will wrap up in Houston, Texas.

The last time the singer went on tour was in 2022, playing 34 shows to support her eighth album, Holy Fvck.

However, she’s previously spoken about the difficulties of touring, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2024: ‘It takes a toll on your body. I’m not 15 anymore.’

Two years earlier Demi had said she was done with touring, writing on social media: ‘I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys.’

Throughout her career, Demi has sold over 24 million records in the United States, won an MTV Video Music Award, fourteen Teen Choice Awards, and five People’s Choice Awards.
