All flights going in or out of Denmark’s biggest airport have been stopped after as many as four ‘large’ drones were seen flying above.
At least 35 flights have been diverted since air traffic at Copenhagen Airport was suspended at 8.26pm local time.
The drones were seen buzzing over the Danish-Swedish border, called the Øresund.
Some flights have been stuck at the airport for more than 100 minutes, according to aviation tracker FlightRadar24.
The airport is largely empty but some passengers are standing at baggage check-in, Danish TV channel TV 2 reported.
A reporter at the scene said there is a ‘massive’ police presence on the tarmac, with officers patrolling up and down and helicopters above.
Just one flight has landed at the airport because it did not have enough fuel to be redirected elsewhere, Naviair, Denmark’s air traffic control, told the news agency Ritzau.
All others have been sent to nearby Malmö , Gothenburg, Billund and Aarhus airports.
The police said on X: ‘CPH Airport is currently closed for takeoff and landing, as two to three large drones have been seen flying in the area.
‘The time horizon is currently unknown.’
Drones have also been spotted whizzing above a military area at Akershus Fortress in Oslo, Norway. Two people have been arrested.
There is still nothing to indicate that the arrests are related to the drones over Copenhagen Airport.
