Ecuador Elections Body Rejects Opposition’s Request for Vote Recount

Ecuador’s electoral body has rejected a request from the leftist opposition to recount presidential votes from thousands of ballot boxes. This is the second time the body has denied such a request, following the opposition’s accusations of fraud in the recent election.

Despite these accusations, electoral authorities, international observers, and even some members of the leftist candidate Luisa Gonzalez’s own party have acknowledged Daniel Noboa as the winner of the April 13th presidential runoff. Noboa’s victory secures him a full term as president.

Gonzalez retains the option to appeal the election results before Ecuador’s elections court.
