It’s been almost three years, but Dubai chocolate still has the internet in a chokehold.
The unique treat, often credited to FIX Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai, features pistachio crème and kadayif pastry strands encased in a layer of chocolate.
Brits queued for hours when FIX Dessert launched a pop up at Harrods last November – despite the bars costing £25 a pop – and demand for the product was so high the chocolate bar was even blamed for a worldwide pistachio shortage in April.
And the craze shows no signs of slowing down any time soon, although it does appear to be taking on a different form, with a new and improved pistachio creation known as the Dubai Chewy Cookie, taking centre stage.
Interestingly, though, it wasn’t created in Dubai and isn’t actually a cookie.
What are Dubai Chewy Cookies?
Dubai Chewy Cookies have been taking South Korea by storm, after several K-pop stars posted about them on social media, including Jang Won-young from the band Ive.
Like the bar, this sweet treat features pistachio crème and kadayif, but instead of chocolate, these ingredients are stuffed inside a chocolate marshmallow.
The whole thing is shaped into a ball and then covered in cocoa powder.
It’s said to have a ‘chewy’, almost ‘mochi-like’ texture, but as it’s not made with rice, it cannot be called mochi.
But why, I hear you ask, is it considered a cookie?
Well, in Korea, a cookie is often a dense, chewy or fried sweet, as opposed to a biscuit.
And as for the rest of the dessert’s name, this is a literal translation from Korean, where it is known as dujjonku, combining both ‘Dubai’ and ‘jjonddeuk’, which means ‘chewy’.

Where can you buy Dubai Chewy Cookies in the UK?
For those in the UK keen to give it a go, several spots have started making and selling the cookies.
You can find them at EDINÉ, a Korean speciality coffee shop in London, as well as at certain branches of the Asian supermarket, Oseyo.
On Instagram, Oseyo claims the cookies are available in limited quantities on Saturdays at all branches, except for Notting Hill and Guildford. The retailer has around 18 other locations across the UK, including in London, Manchester, Cambridge, and Sheffield.
But be warned, you might struggle to get your hands on these, as the company claims it’s been seeing ‘high demand’ since launching them, with shoppers queuing up for them, and the cookies ‘selling out within hours’.
You might want to double-check before heading out to get one, though, in order to avoid disappointment.
If you can’t find them in a store near you, don’t panic, as many content creators have been sharing recipes for making them online, so you can always try your hand at whipping up a batch yourself…
And if all else fails and you need a pistachio creme fix, M&S is currently selling a ‘sensational’ pistachio-filled Easter egg.
