Would you rather have good food or good sex? It’s the age-old question, isn’t it…
Bedroom antics might make your toes curl, but eating a rich chocolate lava cake can also be a rather orgasmic experience.
You might see them as completely separate activities, but it turns out there’s a real link between the two. In fact, researchers from China have claimed sex and eating have ‘considerable commonality’ and are ‘related in numerous ways’ in the brain.
Both can produce incredibly positive reactions, so if you’ve ever struggled to choose between the two, you’re not alone.
But you don’t need to deliberate any longer, as an official answer has finally been given on behalf of Brits as to which we prefer, and it seems it’s food that’s well and truly getting us all going.
According to new research by dessert brand Gü, almost half of Brits have credited food as their greatest source of daily pleasure (46%), compared to just 30% who voted for sex.
And it gets even more interesting, as sex didn’t actually follow straight after food in the rankings.
Delicious food topped the list, with socialising with friends and family coming in second (39%), and melting into the sofa at the end of the day coming in third (33%).

Both of these activities were deemed to be more pleasurable than sex, which was in fourth place.

The research also found that one in five Brits believe Valentine’s Day should be the ‘most pleasurable day of the year’, but many feel it’s actually just the ‘ultimate anti-climax’.
Two in three people claimed the romantic holiday ‘feels forced’, while four in 10 said they wouldn’t even be celebrating this year.
If you’re looking to spice up February 14, there’s plenty of Valentine’s Day-themed food that could get you in the mood…
Metro recently tried all of the supermarket meal deals for Valentine’s and gave honest reviews, so you don’t have to waste money.
M&S also definitely knew what it was doing when it launched a rather naughty-looking ‘tickle’ pickle chocolate, so there’s always that.
This comes as 49% of Brits claimed multi-sensory satisfaction could somewhat enhance pleasure, but many admitted they weren’t giving themselves the pleasure they deserve. Instead, they’re stuck in a cycle of having dinner in front of the TV, busy, fast-paced lifestyles, and scrolling on phones.
In a bid to try and inject a little more pleasure back into everyday life, Gü is launching a new audio series, called Saucy Stories. Narrated by Mark Wright, the series is said to create a state of indulgence, encouraging dessert lovers to enjoy a sweet treat with ‘slow, sensory satisfaction’.
Saucy Stories are available via the Gü website and feature descriptions of some of Gü’s gooiest and most indulgent products, including the iconic Chocolate Melting Middle, Zillionaire Cheesecake, Salted Caramel Cheesecake, and the newest addition to the collection, Salted Pistachio Cheesecake.
And according to an expert, listening could make eating even more enjoyable.
Food Psychologist, Charles Spence, said: ‘Flavour is more than just a matter of what tickles our taste buds; it really is a multisensory symphony. The science of sound proves that certain audible frequencies can alter our perception of food and drink.
‘Deep, husky tones, like the ones used in the Saucy Stories, have been shown to intensify the richness of chocolate and the creaminess of textures.
‘By matching the right sounds with the right flavours, we’re essentially ‘hacking’ the senses to make every bite feel more intense and every flavour deeper and more enjoyable.’
