If we thought Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) being besties was a bit weird, Cain suddenly rolling out the red carpet for Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) was certainly not on our Emmerdale bingo card.
Graham has returned to the village as some unexpected voice of reason – clearly a fake death gives a guy plenty of time to think. Having had a heart to heart with Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) about her priorities in life, he’s now got his sights set on Cain.
Cain is in a world of pain; with a wife in prison for a crime she didn’t commit, and cancer growing in his prostate, life isn’t looking too good.
He’s also got huge financial problems and when a tree falls on a barn and threatens to kill the flock of sheep, Cain panics and calls on anyone who will help.
Graham then shows up and lends a hand in an unexpected move.
It’s a success and they save the sheep, which is good news as Cain’s finances are so dire, he’s already turned to nicking cars as both a money spinner and a distraction. But nicking Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) car was probably a step to far.
Graham sneaks into Butlers to steal the car back, but on his hunt for the keys, he finds Cain’s oncology letter.
Cain confronts Graham sneaking around his house, but in a surprise to both of them, Graham easily overpowers the weakened mechanic.
Graham returns the stolen DeLorean to Joe, but instead of grassing up Cain, he lies it was joyriders.
Graham later returns to Cain and – here’s where the weird voice of reason comes in – he tells Cain he knows about the cancer and urges him to consider his priorities in the face of his illness. Focus on his health rather than fighting the Tates.
The two men go as far as to shake hands – which Kim Tate (Claire King) witnesses and mistakes for them being in cahoots.
With this new knowledge, Kim tells Joe to test Graham’s loyalty by sabotaging Cain’s machinery. But will Graham risk his newfound bro-hood?
