Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Monday’s (March 16) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm.
It’s officially goodbye to Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass) as the fan-favourite left the village for a fresh start shortly after saying goodbye to one true love Lucas Hay (Oscar Curtis), who resolved to stay in prison and serve his time.
The couple have been through the mill over the years, with Lucas currently serving time in prison for attacking dad Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson), who had embarked on a secret affair with his son’s boyfriend.
Dillon had asked Ste to become his sponsor in the wake of his exploitation ordeal and one thing led to another, much to the devastation of Lucas, who subsequently stalked his ex and attacked his father.
But some time behind bars made both Lucas and Dillon see things clearly and distance really did make the heart grow fonder, with Dillon organising a series of visits which seemingly led to him falling for his first love all over again.
The tale took something of a sad twist last week when cellmate Sully (Harry French) threatened Lucas’ life, which led to James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) plotting a prison break to rescue the young chef from harm’s way.
Dillon, meanwhile, decided that it was time for a fresh start after all the heartache he’s endured since rocking up in the eponymous village four years ago (three on-screen).
With Lucas set to be broken out of captivity, he said goodbye to Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) and prepared to leave with his soulmate.
The former flames embraced upon being reunited at a remote location, ready for an exciting new adventure together.
However, when Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) stuck his nose in, Lucas came to realise that estranged father Ste was completely unaware of his breakout plot and, not wanting to leave things as they are with his dad, he decided that he would stay and serve his time, much to the devastation of Dillon.
‘Maybe one day life can bring me back to you’, said an emotional Lucas, who has undergone a serious amount of character growth a lot during his time in prison thus far.
In heart wrenching scenes, the popular couple, known as HayRay, shared a goodbye kiss.

As Lucas got in the car, Dillon looked at him one last time. ‘It’s rude to stare you know?’, Lucas said jokingly, to which Dillon responded: ‘You love it’. The dialogue in question was a throwback / easter egg to a previous scene shared between the two early on in their love story.
As Lucas was taken back to his cell, Dillon said goodbye to his loved ones as he prepared to embark on a new chapter of his life.
No, you’re crying.
Metro understands that star Nate Dass who plays Dillon has left the show after three years. Lucas star Oscar Curtis, however, will remain on screens.
Lucas and Dillon’s romance captivated fans of the show for the past three years, particularly in those early scenes when they first confessed their feelings for one another.
In the years that would follow, the pair endured a serious amount of heartache, from cheating scandals to Luca’s brain tumour battle and Dillon being exploited by a criminal gang.
